Audit the subscriptions hiding in your technology stack

Find renewals, overlap, lock-in, and the data you need before cancelling.

A calm sequence

  1. 01

    Find the four ledgers

Check Apple or Google subscriptions, direct vendor account pages, recent card or bank activity, and email for renewal receipts. Shared household plans may be owned by someone else.

  2. 02

    Write down the job

For each service, note the person who uses it and the task it performs. Two similar tools may serve different workflows, while one bundle may quietly duplicate three others.

  3. 03

    Check what leaves with it

Before cancelling, identify stored files, email addresses, domains, password vaults, photo libraries, playlists, device backups, automations, or family access that depend on the account.

  4. 04

    Use the smallest change

Consider a lower tier, monthly pause, family consolidation, or turning off auto-renewal before an immediate deletion. Save confirmation and the effective end date.

  5. 05

    Set the next review

Record annual renewal months and review again before the next large charge. A browser-local My Tech map can keep ownership and renewal notes together.

Pause when you see

  • Cancelling before exporting needed data
  • An annual renewal owned by a different family member
  • A free trial requiring a future reminder
